Trick

Two computers.
One stream.

Play on one computer and stream from the other — no capture card. Trick sends your screen and sound over your network, encrypted end to end, straight into OBS.

Trick turns the computer you already have into your capture card. No HDMI splitters. No extra boxes. No drivers. Just your gameplay and sound, sealed end to end, arriving in OBS the moment you go live.

60fpsexactly paced, even on high‑refresh monitors
4Ktop resolution, with H.264 or HEVC

150Mbpsmaximum bitrate when you want it pristine

How it works

Pair in seconds.

Open Trick on both computers and type the six‑digit code. They'll find each other automatically from now on.

Locked from the first byte.

Every connection starts with an encrypted handshake, and the pairing code can't be guessed — not even by someone on your network.

Go live.

Click Go live on your gaming PC. Your screen and sound are captured and encoded right on the GPU.

Straight into OBS.

Your streaming PC hands the picture and sound to OBS — no capture card, nothing re‑encoded.

Features

Pro streaming. Zero hardware.

Everything a two‑PC setup needs — capture, encoding, sound and OBS — in one small app on each computer.

OBS, set up for you

Straight into OBS.

One click adds a “Trick” source to your scene — sized to your canvas and tucked behind your overlays. Picture and sound arrive together, decoded on the GPU. Better than a virtual camera: those can't carry sound and need drivers.

Zero‑copy capture

Light on your games.

On Windows, frames never leave the graphics card on their way to its encoder. On Mac, ScreenCaptureKit feeds VideoToolbox.

Sound included

Hear everything.

Game audio rides along with the picture, perfectly in sync — no virtual audio cable.

Built for real networks

Never falls behind.

If Wi‑Fi hiccups, Trick skips ahead instead of building delay, eases the bitrate down, then back up once it's stable.

Pairing

Six digits. Done.

SPAKE2 proves both screens show the same code — an attacker gets one guess.

Discovery

Finds your computers.

Even across ranges like 192.168.0.x and 192.168.1.x — no addresses to type.

Menu bar & tray

Keeps going in the background.

Close the window and Trick keeps streaming from the tray. It can start at login, and keeps your computer awake while you're live.

Personalize

Make it yours.

Light or dark — plus six accent colors: gold, ember, mint, sky, ruby and violet.

Fine‑tuning

Your picture, your way.

Pick the display, resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate — or leave it on automatic.

Privacy & security

Your stream stays
between your computers.

Every frame and every sound is encrypted before it leaves your gaming PC, and only a computer you've paired can read it. Unpaired computers can never send anything.

Noise_XX_25519_ChaChaPoly_BLAKE2s

Encrypted, every frame.

Every connection runs a Noise XX handshake with Curve25519 keys, then seals each frame with ChaCha20‑Poly1305. The same suite Crispy uses.

Pairing that can't be guessed.

SPAKE2 over ristretto255 checks the six‑digit code inside the encrypted session, so an attacker gets one guess per try. Compare fingerprints to be extra sure.

Keys stay home.

Your identity key is sealed with Windows Data Protection, or kept private to your user account on Mac. The feed to OBS never leaves the computer it runs on.

Get Trick.

Free for Mac and Windows. Install it on your gaming PC and your streaming PC — then pair them once.

Your computer may ask you to confirm before opening Trick for the first time. That's normal for apps downloaded from the web. Here's what to do. Downloads are served from GitHub Releases.

Setup

Live in a few minutes.

  1. 1

    Open the disk image.

Double-click Trick_1.0.0_universal.dmg, then drag Trick into your Applications folder.

  2. 2

    Open Trick.

If macOS says it can't verify the app, go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.

  3. 3

    Allow screen & sound.

The first time you go live, macOS asks to let Trick record your screen and system audio, and to find computers on your local network. Say yes to both.

  4. 4

    Pair and go live.

Click Add computer, pick your other computer, and type the six digits it shows. Then hit Go live.

Then connect OBS on your streaming PC.

In OBS, open Tools › WebSocket Server Settings and turn on Enable WebSocket server. Then, in Trick, open OBS and click Set up OBS. Prefer doing it by hand? Add a Media Source pointed at http://127.0.0.1:24790/live.

Questions? Answers.

No. Trick replaces the capture card, HDMI splitter and cables. Your gaming PC encodes the picture in hardware and sends it over your network to your streaming PC, which hands it to OBS.

Your streaming PC — the one receiving the stream. Trick gives OBS the gameplay with sound as a Media Source, decoded on the GPU. One‑click setup works with OBS Studio 28 or later.

Yes. Either computer can send or receive, so it works PC to PC, Mac to PC, PC to Mac, and Mac to Mac.

Trick is built to stay out of the way. On Windows, GPU capture keeps frames on the graphics card and encodes them with NVENC, AMF or Quick Sync. On Mac, VideoToolbox does the encoding. When you're not streaming, Trick's capture engine doesn't run at all.

Yes, though Ethernet is best. On Wi‑Fi, Trick skips ahead to the next keyframe instead of building delay and adjusts the bitrate to fit. Choosing constant bitrate is steadier on Wi‑Fi.

Up to 4K at 60 fps in H.264 or HEVC, with automatic bitrate or anything up to 150 Mbps. Sound is AAC at up to 320 kbps. H.264 works with every OBS; HEVC looks better at the same bitrate if the streaming PC's GPU can decode it.

No. On Windows, Trick captures everything you hear directly. On Mac, system sound capture needs macOS 14.2 or later, and macOS asks for permission the first time.

This is common when Windows calls your network “Public.” Click Allow Trick through the firewall in Trick's settings, try Search other networks, or type the other computer's address — you'll find it under Settings › Network & Security.

Mac: macOS 13 Ventura or later on Apple silicon or Intel (system sound needs macOS 14.2+). Windows: Windows 10 or 11, 64‑bit. OBS: OBS Studio 28 or later on the streaming PC for one‑click setup.
